Who We Are
Elisa Legon, Ph.D.
Elisa, a native Spanish speaker, has been writing professionally in, translating, and teaching Spanish for over twenty years. She has a bachelor degree in Economics from Stanford University and a doctorate degree in Theatre History and Theory, with a specialization in South American theatre, from the Graduate Center of City University of New York.
She has written articles in Spanish and English on various topics of Latin American culture and current events for academic journals and theatre festival programs. She has provided translation services to international companies, many professionals, and scholars. Her co-translation of the play La omisión de la familia Coleman is available in print.
She has taught courses in Spanish-English translation, communication, public speech, dramatic literature, and writing at many higher-education institutions, such as Union Theological Seminary (affiliated to Columbia University), Baruch College, New York College of Technology, and LaGuardia Community College. Her work includes running workshops on pedagogy and faculty certification as well as collaborating in Hispanic-culture course development. She has passed the CSET Spanish Exams I, II, and III: these are the exams for credentialed school teachers to verify proficiency in grammar, linguistics, and culture.
Elisa loves to travel. Her most recent trip was in New Zealand, where she climbed volcanoes, swam in pristine (but freezing) waters, rowed down the Whanganui River, and listened to the most beautiful birds. She also enjoys hiking with her dogs Jackson and Chancy.
